Regular dog walking is essential for maintaining your dog's health and happiness. It provides numerous physical and mental benefits that show up in everything from their weight and joints to how settled they are at home in the evening.

Physical health

Consistent exercise helps dogs maintain a healthy weight, supports joint mobility and keeps the cardiovascular system working well. Older dogs benefit from gentle, frequent movement just as much as young dogs benefit from the chance to stretch out and run.

Mental wellbeing

A walk is not only exercise — it's information. Sniffing is one of the most enriching things a dog can do, and letting your dog investigate at their own pace on part of the walk is often more tiring than distance alone.

What a good walk includes

  • Time to sniff and explore rather than marching from A to B
  • Some structured moments — recall, loose-lead practice, a settle
  • Safe, appropriate social contact for dogs who enjoy it
  • A calm finish so your dog comes home relaxed rather than wired

Consistency matters most

Dogs thrive on routine. A predictable walking schedule helps reduce frustration behaviours at home and gives your dog something to look forward to. If work makes that difficult, a regular weekly slot with a walker keeps the routine intact.
